What happens when you don't plan ahead.

Besides Hocus Pocus, I also got Parisian Skies eyeshadow from MAC's Bloggers' Obsession collection and although it's a beautiful, shimmery, wearable blue shadow, I really did not do it any justice today.

On days like today when I have a bit more time to spend doing my makeup, I tend to apply it with more thought and purpose than I actually did. I had no idea what products I wanted to use when I began doing my makeup (besides my usual rotation of face products), and once I started doing my eyes, for some odd reason, I decided to slap on MAC Bare Study Paint Pot instead of the usual, trusty UDPP.

After applying Bare Study, I made a spur of the moment decision to use Parisian Skies for the first time. Had I planned to use it beforehand, I would've opted to prime my lids with either UDPP or MAC Soft Ochre Paint Pot instead, since it's the same color as my skin color and doesn't have any shimmer to compete with the shimmer in the eyeshadow, unlike Bare Study.

It's much more evident up-close in real life than it is in these photos, but when layered over Bare Study, Parisian Skies just seems kind of muddy and a bit...blah. If you look very, very closely, you may be able to see that the color on my lower lash line (almost a tiny bit purpley) is ever so slightly different than the color on my lid - it's actually much more true to color on my lower lash line because I didn't prime that area with Bare Study.

Anyway, you live and you learn. It actually doesn't look that bad...it's just that the eyeshadow is so much more beautiful on it's own that it really kind of frustrated me the more I realized how much I messed it up. Oh well. This just goes to show you that choosing the right primer and/or base needed for your eye look really can make a difference.
