Lately I've been doing a lot of beauty/makeup shopping at Target, and have been especially obsessed with ELF products (Blush for a dollar? Really?!). When I came across the ELF Eyebrow kit I immediately wanted to give it a shot since my eyebrow routine has been pretty uninvolved over the past year. Normally I reach for easy-to-use, one step products but there is something about a precisely defined brow that I LOVE. It took me a few tries to get the hang of using the tinted gel and the powder sides of the kit in a way that worked, but I've been using it for weeks and I really like the results I've been getting. In the accompanying video I'll show you some of my favorite products for filling in your brows as well as a demo on how I use my ELF Eyebrow kit.
But what if you need to start from the very beginning? The good news is that the recent trend of thicker, more shapely eyebrows means that we don't have to do all that much to change our natural shape. That being said most of us do have to keep up with taming our brows a little bit to keep them from looking unruly. If you're starting fresh and you really don't trust yourself to shape them I would suggest getting them professionally done - at least for the first time. That way you can find a face-flattering shape and just maintain that yourself at home. I would recommend going to a place that specializes in brows. Be wary of walking in to any random salon and trusting that they'll know everything there is to know. You're much more likely to get results that you're happy with if you read online reviews and do your research ahead of time.
It can also be fun to play around with eyebrow stencils like the ones from Anastasia (I believe they can be found at Ulta and Sephora). Personally, I've always groomed and shaped my eyebrows myself but it's really what you're comfortable with and what works for you.
What color should I use? Taupey, cool browns are going to be very universally flattering and neutral. That means they don't become the focal point of your face (which can happen when you use warmer browns) but still frame your face and set off your beautiful features! I would say the only exception would be the vibrant redheads out there. If you have red hair, an ash brown or taupe shade may still work for you. Or you may just want to find a color that matches your auburn locks exactly. Again it comes down to personal preference. If you have dark black or brown hair, you may want to pick a color that matches your hair color or go for a shade or two lighter. As a blonde, I prefer my brow products to be a shade or two darker than my hair color.
Whatever the case, don't be afraid to fill in your brows! You never know, they may become your most favorite feature!
